Exhibition Opening: Robyn Clarke – I Was Just Here In I Was Just Here, local jewellery artist Robyn Clarke presents a collection of contemporary jewellery and objects inspired by encounters with place. The exhibition explores the ancient concept of genius loci- the “spirit of place”- and how landscapes, ruins, waterways, and horizons leave lasting impressions on those who experience them. The idea of genius loci first appeared in Roman thought, describing the protective spirit of a site: not gods of the sky, but guardians of the earth, the spring, the threshold, the home. Today, the phrase has evolved across architecture, art, and landscape design to express the felt atmosphere of a location.
